About Valerie:
Valerie Teachout is a Senior Attorney within both the Federal Sector and General Litigation Group at the Spiggle Law Firm. Her practice focuses on providing representation to both public and private sector employees in all phases of pre and post litigation.
Valerie represents employees before administrative tribunals such as the EEOC and MSPB, as well as in federal court. She focuses primarily on matters involving discrimination and/or retaliation claims arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 relating to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity discrimination; under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) for claims relating to age; and under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Rehabilitation Act for claims relating to disabilities/accommodations.
Prior to joining the Spiggle Law Firm, Valerie worked for the DC-based law firm of Kalijarvi, Chuzi, Newman & Fitch for five years (2014 – 2019), where her practice was nearly exclusively devoted to representing federal-sector employees in their discrimination and retaliation matters arising under the laws mentioned above. Before that, she was a solo practitioner based in south-central Virginia, where she honed her skills as a litigation attorney and garnered a reversal by the Fourth Circuit in a sex-disrimination case, Merritt v. Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., 601 F.3d 289 (4th Cir. 2010).
